Amnesty International calls on the Bahraini regime to release Mushaima

Amnesty International reiterated its call on the Bahraini authorities to release prominent political prisoner Hassan Mushaima and warned about the deterioration of his health conditions.

Researcher at the International Organization, Heba Zaidan, highlighted the suffering of Mushaima, 73 years old, noting that he suffers from diabetes and diseases in the heart and prostate.

Zaidan added in a tweet that the Bahraini prison authorities routinely deprive him of adequate medical care.

The Bahraini opposition leader accused the regime’s authorities of using a slow death policy as he was imprisoned for ten years.

In a newly published recording, Mushaima confirmed that the slow death policy is being practised against him, where his health deteriorates exponentially amidst a lack of medical care.

He pointed out that his body is collapsing day after day.

Activist Ali Mushaima, who broadcast the audio clip on Twitter, said that his father complained of medical negligence. He is deprived of medical care and the necessary medications prescribed for his diseases, despite his repeated demands.

Mushaima had been sentenced to life imprisonment for “attempting to overthrow the government” for his role in the 2011 protests.

The Secretary-General of the Freedom and Democracy Movement in Bahrain Haq is being held in prison under poor conditions.

At a time when many figures of those who participated in the protests are being treated similarly.

Western-allied Bahrain, which hosts the US Fifth Fleet, crushed mass protests organized by the Shi’ite majority in 2011.

The ruling Al Khalifa family has since put down the unrest by dissolving Shi’ite-led opposition groups and prosecuting activists.

In turn, Haq accused the regime authorities of orchestrating a liquidation process inside the prison for its general secretary and opposition leader.

The organization held the regime responsible for the “dangerous repercussions” that would occur if Mushaima died.

Haq said in a written statement that the audio recording clearly shows Mushaima’s suffering.

The authorities deliberately neglect his health condition and not enable him to be treated by specialized doctors he trusts.

It called on the international community, represented by the UN human rights organizations, to put pressure on the Bahraini authorities and protect the lives of the Secretary-General and the rest of the prisoners of conscience and conscience.

The movement concluded its statement by calling for its Secretary-General’s immediate and unconditional freedom and all political prisoners and the cessation of the slow death policy and denial of treatment in prisons in Bahrain.

On the other hand, the regime’s authorities tried, as usual, to cover up the systematic crimes of medical negligence against political prisoners.

The Ministry of Health issued a statement denying what was circulated on social media platforms about Mushaima.

It claimed that Mushaima “receives integrated health care, according to the recommendations of the doctors who specialize in treating his condition, through good, high-quality care,” as she put it.

On the other hand, prominent Bahraini human rights activist Sayed Ahmed Al-Wadaei refuted what was stated in the Ministry of Health statement regarding Mushaima receiving medical care.

He said in a tweet that the situation of the leader Mushaima is dangerous, adding that “his voice testimony and the pain he is exposed to are more than a thousand statements issued by all the ministries of the state that lack credibility.”

He pointed out that “the country’s King Hamad bin Isa bears the primary responsibility for any harm that Mushaima is exposed to.”

He stated that he is “a prisoner of conscience and a hostage, and he must be released immediately.
