The International Center for Supporting Rights and Freedoms said that Bahrain discredits the United Nations NGO Committee through its practices of incitement against human rights organizations.
The Center stated in a press release that on July 27, 2022, the United Nations Human Rights Committee issued document No in its 135th session. CCPR/C/135/2/Add.1 assesses Bahrain’s commitment to the concluding observations and recommendations related to military courts, death sentences and freedom of opinion and expression.
According to the Center, the UN document concluded that Bahrain failed to implement the Committee’s recommendations regarding respect for human rights, as Manama received the lowest score, E.
According to the Center, in January 2019, Bahrain began using its membership in the NGO Committee to retaliate against human rights organizations that submitted reports on continuing human rights violations in Bahrain to the United Nations.
Bahrain has consistently prevented the Center from obtaining consultative status with the Economic and Social Council.
The Committee regrets the lack of information on the measures taken to protect journalists, activists and human rights defenders, investigate any violations against them, and bring the perpetrators to justice in Bahrain.
The Committee reiterated its recommendation and requested information on reports of reprisals against human rights organizations that have submitted reports to the United Nations.
The recommended procedure is that a letter should be sent to inform the State party of the discontinuation of the follow-up procedure. The information requested should be included in the State party’s following periodic report.
On April 15, 2022, the Center submitted its report to the Human Rights Committee, explaining Bahrain’s exploitation of its membership in the NGO Committee in New York to take revenge on human rights organizations.
The International Center for Supporting Rights and Freedoms said that it does not hide that it is in a fierce confrontation with Bahrain within the Committee that is affiliated with the United Nations (the Committee of Non-Governmental Organizations) because of monitoring the human rights situation in Bahrain.
Bahrain has used this position in the United Nations (it expires at the end of 2022 and was re-elected for a new term starting from 2023) to take revenge and heal.

The Center called on the member states of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations to put its file in the NGO Committee to vote on granting consultative status or to refuse to grant consultative status so as not to stand by and watch Bahrain’s tampering with the law.
